The famous art director P. Krishnamurthy passed away. He was 77 years old. He has done art direction and costume design for more than 50 films in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
He has received five national awards. He has also worked with more than 15 Malayalam films including Swathi Thirunal, Vaishali, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Perunthachan, Rajashilpi, Parinayam, Ghazal, Kulam, Vachanam, and Oliyambukal.
Apart from the state awards of the Government of Tamil Nadu, he has also received the Kalaimamani Award. Born in Poombuhar, a coastal town near Thanjavur, Krishnamurthy made his film debut in 1975 with GV Iyer’s Kannada film Hamsa Geetha.
Krishnamurthy came to Malayalam through Lenil Rajendran’s ‘Swathithirunal’. Krishnamurthy last worked in the film ‘Ramanujan’ directed by Jnanarajasekharan.
