Patna: Bihar Education Minister Mewalal Chaudhary has resigned. This is the third day since the Nitish Kumar government was sworn in that the minister has resigned following allegations of corruption. JD (U) leader Mewalal Chaudhary has been facing corruption charges since 2017.
In 2017, a case was registered against Mewalal Chaudhary, a JDU MLA from Tarapur. He was accused of irregularities in the appointments of assistant professors and junior scientists at the Bhagalpur Agricultural University. Mewalal was suspended from the party following protests by the BJP, which was in opposition at the time. But no charge sheet was filed against him.
Returning to the party, Mewalal contested and won the assembly elections and became the Minister of Education. The resignation of the minister came as protests by the opposition, including the RJD, intensified.
