New Delhi: Widespread tension in north-east Delhi. Two policemen and five natives were killed in pelting. Many people were injured. The vehicles, shops, and houses were set on fire. A petrol pump was set on fire in Bhajanpura. A large number of police and paramilitary troops arrived. Police used lathi and tear gas in several places.
Opponents and supporters of the Citizenship Amendment Act clashed widely. Along with the police came the sight of gunmen firing at the protesters. The tension escalated when Trump’s visit provided security in Delhi. Gokulpuri ASI was injured in a stone-pelting while on duty at Chand Bagh. Ratanlal, a head constable of the commissioner’s office, died. DCP S Amit Sharma injured.
Another victim was a native of Mohammed Furqan. The name of the other persons has not been released. The violence started after BJP leader Kapil Mishra came out against an indefinite road blockade in Jafrabad, led by women, on Sunday morning. Kapil Mishra had organized a pro-CAA event near Jafrabad on Sunday evening.
It was announced that unless the police evacuate the road blockers within three days, reports said.
