New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Unified Check Post and Passenger Terminal at Kartarpur corridor in Gurdaspur, Punjab. He also paid homage to the Beersahib Gurudwara at Sultanpur Lodhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also flags off the first pilgrimage corridor. It is to facilitate Indian pilgrims to visit the Gurdwara of Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan. The first group includes former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, MPs and Punjab MLAs and 500 pilgrimages. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also participates in a public event organized at Dera Baba Nanak. Fifty immigration counters have been set up to accommodate five thousand pilgrims per day in a fully air-conditioned terminal that resembles an airport. The 300-foot-tall national memorial flag has also been raised on the international border. Kartarpur Sahib Corridor was commissioned on October 24, as part of an agreement signed with Pakistan. The corridor can be used by all religious pilgrims and Indian nationals. Pilgrims must carry an OCI card along with their passport even if they do not require a visa for the trip. Kartarpur was inaugurated on the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji.
