New Delhi: Pakistan has promised to provide diplomatic assistance to former Navy chief Kulbhushan Jadhav, Indian Foreign Spokesperson Ravish Kumar has said. “After assessing Pakistan’s promise, we will respond diplomatically,” he said. The promise was made by Pakistan following the setback from the International Court of Justice in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case.
The verdict in the International Court of Justice was on July 17 in favor of India. The court also asked for a reconsideration of the execution of Kulbhushan Jadhav and recommended that steps be taken to bring Jadhav to India’s diplomatic aid. India’s claim that Pakistan had violated the Vienna Agreement by denying diplomatic aid to Jadhav was recognized by the International Justice of Court.
Meanwhile, Indian diplomats have been granted permission to meet Kulbhushan Jadhav. Pakistan permitted for officials to visit Kulbhushan today. Pakistan’s action is on the orders of the International Court of Justice.
Kulbhushan, who was arrested in March 2016 on charges of spying for Pakistan, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani court in April 2017. Following the intervention of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Pakistan was forced to reconsider Kulbhushan’s execution on July 17, 2019. The court also asked Pakistan to allow Indian diplomats to see Kulbhushan.
Accordingly, Pakistan has permitted Indian officials to visit Kulbhushan. Meanwhile, foreign spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said Pakistan had informed India of the matter and had not taken a stand. “The sanction is being verified under the guidelines laid down by the International Tribunal,” he said.
