Mumbai: 2 cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) were detected in Maharashtra’s Nagpur on Tuesday. Officials stated that both are children and their health condition is satisfactory. Two girls aged 7 and 13 were diagnosed with symptoms.
Sources in the state public health department said the test was conducted at a private lab after two days of continuous fever. However, the state government has constituted a task force headed by JJ Hospital Dean Dr. Pallavi Saplin to prepare the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and decide the future course of action.
“Both these girls had cough and fever and have been sent to NIV as their samples were slightly different. There was no need to hospitalize both the children,” hospital sources said.
Parents don’t worry, this virus is not like Corona. But Dr. Avinash Gawande, Government Medical and Hospital Superintendent, Nagpur, suggested that children must wear masks. Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar has called an emergency meeting of the department regarding the HMPV virus. Union Minister of State for Health Pratapav Jadav is also expected to attend the meeting
