The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Navya Haridas as its candidate for the Wayanad constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha by-elections, where she will face off against Congress’s Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The voting is scheduled for November 13, with results to be announced on November 23.
Who is Navya Haridas?
Navya Haridas, 39, is a seasoned political figure, having served as a two-time councillor in the Kozhikode Corporation. She currently holds the position of BJP parliamentary party leader in the corporation and is the state General Secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha. Haridas holds a BTech degree in Mechanical Engineering from KMCT Engineering College, affiliated with Calicut University.
She previously contested in the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections as the BJP candidate for the Kozhikode South constituency but was defeated by Congress candidate Ahammad Devarkovil.
Addressing Wayanad’s Needs
In an exclusive interview with India Today TV after her nomination, Haridas emphasized the pressing needs of the Wayanad constituency. “The people in Wayanad need some advancement. The Congress family is not actually meeting the requirements of the people of Wayanad. From this election onwards, Wayanad residents need a better member in Parliament who can address their issues,” she stated.
Highlighting her experience in public service, Haridas added, “I have administrative experience, having been elected twice as a councillor in Kerala. For the last eight years, I have been in the political field, serving the people, knowing their problems, and always being with them.”
With a strong local governance background and a focus on community concerns, Navya Haridas aims to be a voice for the people of Wayanad in the upcoming elections, setting the stage for a competitive political battle.
