New Delhi: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami introduced the Unified Civil Code Bill in the Assembly. The Chief Minister, who came to the Assembly with the Constitution, said that the long wait is over and Congress should cooperate with the measures.
The Chief Minister introduced the bill amid Jai Shri Ram calls by BJP MLAs. But the Congress alleged that the action was rushed and that the BJP did not even give time to read the draft bill. Congress leaders protested in the House with placards.
Tribal communities will be exempted from the purview of the bill. The draft bill was prepared by a five-member committee headed by a former Supreme Court judge. BJP is trying to implement Uniform civil Act in 3 states including Uttarakhand before the elections.
