Thalassery: Cabinet approves BPCL’s Compressed Biogas Plant as a permanent solution to Kochi city’s organic waste problem. The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held in Thalassery during the Navakerala Sadas.
10 acres should be handed over to BPCL for this purpose from the land owned by Kochi Corporation. At least 150 metric tons of waste per day should be installed on this land. Compressed biogas produced from the plant will be used in BPCL. The construction cost is around 150 crores. This amount will be fully borne by BPCL. It is estimated that the project can be implemented within 15 months.
The organic fertilizer produced in the plant will be made available to the farmers. Waste water generated as part of waste treatment is treated and released only as clean water. After the treatment, the remaining waste water will be taken over by Clean Company and treated.
In the Cabinet meeting, it was also decided to grant an incentive of Rs 1,000 per day to 387 Civil Defense volunteers involved in fire rescue operations in the Brahmapuram waste treatment plant fire.
