Kerala DGP Dr. Shaik Darvesh Saheb has confirmed that the blast at the Zamra International Convention Centre in Kalamassery on Sunday morning was a bomb attack. He said that an improvised explosive device (IED) was used in the explosion, and that the NIA (National Investigation Agency) is likely to take over the investigation.
The DGP also said that the blast occurred at around 9:40 AM, when a large group of people had gathered at the convention centre for a religious event.
The police are currently investigating the motive behind the attack, and have not ruled out any possibility. However, the DGP has said that the incident is being treated as a “serious crime” and that all necessary steps are being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
A woman died in the incident. Around 35 people were injured. 7 people were seriously injured.
