Thiruvananthapuram: A proud achievement for Kerala on World Tourism Day. Kanthalloor of Idukki district has been awarded the award announced by the Central Department of Tourism. Kanthallur has received the Best Tourism Village Award in the country. Kanthallur is one of the first Panchayats to implement the Women Friendly Tourism Project jointly implemented by the Responsible Tourism Mission and UN Women. Kadalundi in Kozhikode district, Trithala and Patithara in Palakkad district, Pinarai and Ancharakandi in Kannur district, Maravanthuruth in Kottayam district, Manchira, Valiya Paramba in Kasaragod district, Kanthallur in Idukki district and Chekadi in Wayanad district have been selected for implementation of the street project in the first phase. The project was implemented with emphasis on traditional ways of life and rural tourism. The street plan is to set up streets with green and cultural themes that are visible and experiential, taking into account the potential of each area. At least three streets were envisioned to be implemented in each location as part of the project. This project, which is envisaged to be implemented in full public-private partnership, has been prepared in such a way that the local self-government bodies and the local people can play a major role in the tourism sector.
Tourism Minister PA Muhammad Riaz responded that it is a matter of pride that Kerala’s model is being recognized.
