Shimla: The death toll in Himachal rains has risen to 61. The chief minister informed that there was a loss of around Rs 10,000 crore and the rescue operation is still going on. The bodies of 4 people who were missing in the landslide were found. It is reported that around 20 people are still trapped underground, so the death toll may rise. It is estimated that 52 people have died in the rains in Uttarakhand so far.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday conducted an aerial survey of Fatehpuri and Indore in Kangra district to assess the extent of the disaster. Schools in Himachal Pradesh have been declared closed today due to heavy rains. Uttarakhand also declared a red alert today due to heavy rains.
The Yamuna’s water level has risen to 205.33 meters due to continued heavy rains in Himachal and Uttarakhand. Over 800 people have been evacuated from the nearby low-lying areas of the Beas river due to high water levels in the Pong Dam. 7 houses collapsed in Lalpani in Krishna Nagar area of Shimla due to another landslide on Tuesday afternoon. But after receiving a warning about landslides, the residents were evacuated on Tuesday morning and a major accident was avoided.
