Bhubaneswar: Death toll in Odisha train derailment rises to 288.1091 people were injured. 56 of them are in critical condition. The dead body could not be completely removed from the bogies. The rescue operation is still going on.
According to the preliminary report, the cause of the accident is signaling failure. The railway authorities informed that the process has started to restore the traffic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ashwani Vaishnav, Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnadik, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and others reached the accident site and assessed the situation. An ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each has been announced for the families of the deceased. Those undergoing treatment with serious injuries will be given Rs 2 lakh and others Rs 50,000 each. Several trains were canceled due to the accident. The accident took place near Bazar station in Balasore district.
