Delhi: The Supreme Court rejected the state government’s petition on the Arikomban issue. The Supreme Court clarified that it cannot interfere in the matter. Kerala filed an appeal in the Supreme Court stating that the High Court’s directive to shift Arikompan to Parambikulam was impractical.
The state government has asked the Supreme Court that the High Court’s intervention in the issue of Arikomban, a wild animal that is causing havoc in Chinnakanal, is a threat to the lives and property of the people and that all the orders issued by the High Court should be stayed in this regard. The High Court had said that it was the responsibility of the government to find a place to relocate the elephant in case of protests in Parambikulam against the relocation of the rice elephant.
However, the Supreme Court clarified that the expert committee, which includes the state government officials, had given the instruction to shift the paddy field to Parampikulam, so it cannot interfere in the matter. The Supreme Court also observed that the decision of the expert committee was logical. The bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud rejected the petition.
