Jakarta: A fire at a fuel storage depot in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, killed 16 people on Friday. The Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department said that 50 people were injured, including two children. The fire broke out at the Plumpang fuel storage facility under Pertamina, a public sector oil and gas company.
This is a densely populated area. Many houses were burnt. Thousands of residents were evacuated from the scene. The cause of the fire is unclear. Pertamina is focused on getting the fire under control and evacuating nearby workers and residents to safety, the company said in a statement.
