New Delhi: DY Chandrachud will take over as the next Chief Justice of India. The current Chief Justice U U Lal has suggested the name of his successor. U U Lalit will retire on November 8. Justice Chandrachud can remain in office for two years. He will retire from the Supreme Court on November 10, 2024.
According to the procedure, the Union Law Minister writes to the top judge of the country asking him to recommend a successor a month before the resignation of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. In the presence of all the sitting judges of the Supreme Court, the letter of recommendation was handed over to the current Chief Justice UU Lalit Chandrachud this morning. The practice is that the outgoing Chief Justice recommends the next senior judge to the higher post.
