New Delhi: Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that passengers who do not wear seat belts on the back seat of cars will be fined.
Gadkari said that road safety is at the top of the country’s agenda while answering questions related to the tragic death of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry in a road accident in Mumbai. The incident was a new lesson in how road safety is viewed in a country where seat belts are not enforced by law.
“It would be too early to comment on the cause of the accident. But his accident is unfortunate. Cyrus Mistry was my close friend… We will find the cause and fix things, but we have no reports as of now. One thing is very important, road safety is the highest agenda of the country and this incident has given us a new opportunity to learn the lesson on road safety”, Gadkari said.
