Mumbai: India’s first electric AC double-decker bus in Mumbai. BrihanMumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) today introduced the first bus of its newly acquired electric double-decker air-conditioned bus. The rest will hit the city’s roads by mid-2023, according to reports.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Gadkari announced the launch on Twitter. ‘Starting the Sustainability Revolution! “Extremely happy to launch Ashok Leyland’s electric double-decker bus today in Mumbai,” he tweeted. The electric bus is manufactured by Switch Mobility, Ashok Leyland’s electric vehicle division.
According to reports, the city’s first electric AC double-decker bus will hit the roads next month. BEST’s non-AC double-decker buses are very popular but the AC double-decker bus is ready for the first time. The new double-decker bus will have two staircases. Earlier there was only one.
Meanwhile, CCTV, digital ticketing systems, and hassle-free travel are the advantages. In the first phase, CSMT-Nariman Point, Colaba-Worli, and Kurla-Santacruz routes will be operated. The fare is Rs 6 for a minimum distance of 5 km. BEST also has 3,700 buses serving Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai.
