New Delhi: Free distribution of booster dose of covid vaccine for senior citizens between 18 to 59 years has started. Free vaccines will be distributed through government vaccination centers for 75 days from today. At the same time, the number of Covid cases in the country is still above 20 thousand. In the last 24 hours, 20,038 more people have been diagnosed with Covid.
The central government’s decision comes in the context of continuing reluctance to booster doses. Those above 18 years of age will be given free vaccines through government vaccination centers for 75 days from today. The project aims to ensure protection from Covid by providing vaccines to more people in the context of the increasing spread of Covid. Only one percent of the country’s 77 crore population aged between 18 and 59 years have received a booster dose. 26 percent of the 16 crore people over the age of 60 who are Covid frontline fighters have taken booster doses.
The free vaccine is also being distributed as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the 75th anniversary of the freedom struggle. In the last 24 hours, 20,038 more people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the country. 47 people died. The daily positivity rate stood at 4.44 percent. Currently, the number of people undergoing treatment in the country is over one lakh.
